INFA SET FOR GROWTH AFTER CHANGES IN US
Italian active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) supplier Infa insists it is poised for significant growth in 2009 following two acquisitions last year and a restructuring of its operations in the US. The Milanbased group has set up a North American sales and marketing office in Peapack, New Jersey, which replaces both an office in Palatine, Illinois, and its US affiliate European Manufacturers Associates (EMA).
Midway through last year, Infa expanded beyond its Labochim
and Sifavitor operations in Italy by acquiring Derivados Quimicos
and Kylolab in Spain. Gaining the Spanish units doubled the group’s API manufacturing capacity and expanded its research and development capabilities (Generics bulletin, 1 August 2008, page 9).
Infa has more than 20 APIs under development, which will add
to its existing line of more than 100 molecules. Among the raw materials under active development are: acamprosate calcium, atovaquone, bimatoprost, bosentan, milnacipran, pregabalin, proguanil, riluzole and sevelamer.
